UGC NET 2021: Application Form, Exam Dates & Other Information


UGC NET means University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test. The UGC NET is a nationwide entrance exam that will be administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

The eligibility for JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) and Assistant Professor, as well as Assistant Professor only, will be determined by the UGC NET test.

Candidates who pass the examination will be eligible for positions as Assistant Professors or Junior Research Fellows in Indian universities and colleges. University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test all applications submitted for the only online mode.

Application Form

Candidates must read the following information about the UGC NET 2021 Application Form:

  • Candidates must read the entire knowledge bulletin and understand the application process before applying for the UGC NET. Students must also have all of the relevant paperwork on hand when registering.
  • Candidates must first register with a specific email address and mobile number as part of the application process. This will produce an application number as well as other required login information.
  • After registering, students must complete the online application form in its entirety.
  • After completing the form, students must upload scanned images of their picture and signature in the appropriate format (JPEG/JPG) and size.
  • Following the uploading process, candidates must pay their fees using one of the available payment methods.
  • Students may make changes to the application before submitting it. Candidates can only edit their applications during the correction time after they have submitted the form.
  • Candidates can print the application form as well as the fee payment receipt for future reference.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must read the UGC NET 2021 Eligibility Criteria before filling out the application form:


  • Candidates with a Masters Degree or its equivalent from a UGC accredited university or institution (General/ UR/ General- EWS) are qualified to apply.
  • Students must have earned at least 55 percent in their Masters Degree (50 percent for ST/SC/OBC (NCL)/PWD/Transgender group candidates).
  • Candidates with a Master’s degree should have passed Electronic Science, Humanities and Social Science (including languages), Computer Science and Applications, and other qualifying subjects.
  • Students who are in their final year of a Master’s degree program or who have taken the exam but have yet to receive their results are also eligible to apply. Only if these students meet the qualification criteria will they be deemed qualified. Furthermore, applicants must complete their Masters degree within two years of the results being announced, or they will be disqualified.
  • Students with a Ph.D. who completed their Masters level exam by September 1992 would receive a 5% reduction in their overall grade (which means from 55 percent to 50 percent ).

Age Requirements

Assistant Professor: There will be no upper age limit for applying to the UGC NET.

Junior Research Fellowship (JRF): Applicants must be between the ages of 31 and 35 as of March 1, 2021.

Relaxation as you get older: Candidates who are ST/ SC/ PWD/ OBC-NCL/ Transgender/ Women will be granted a 5-year age relaxation. Candidates with research experience or who have worked in the armed forces will also be granted a five-year reprieve. Candidates with an LLM degree would receive a three-year age reduction.

Exam Pattern

Candidates must read the following information about the UGC NET Exam Pattern:

  • The exam will be administered through computer-based testing (CBT).
  • Number of Documents: The exam will consist of two papers.
  • The paper will be available in the candidate’s preferred language, either Hindi or English.
  • The paper will include multiple-choice, objective-type questions.
  • Exam Time: The exam will last 3 hours and 30 minutes without a break.
  • The paper will have a total of 150 questions. Paper 1 will have 50 questions, while Paper 2 will have 100.
  • The paper would be worth 300 points in total. Paper 1 will be worth 100 points, while Paper 2 will be worth 200 points.
  • Two marks will be awarded for each correct answer.
  • The document would not have any negative markings.

Tips for Preparation

Candidates can use the following tips and tricks to help them prepare for the UGC NET exam:

  • On the website, you can find the full UGC NET syllabus and pattern.
  • Students will practice by solving the previous year’s question papers or sample papers.
  • Candidates should make notes in one position, jotting down all of the important points.
  • Candidates should establish and observe a study routine on a regular basis.
  • The best way to prepare for the UGC NET is to use research content that has been widely recommended by experts.

Admit Card

UGC NET 2021 Admit Card releasing in online mode. The UGC NET Admit Card will be available to download beginning in April 2021 for the June session and in the third week of November 2021 for the December session.

Students will be asked to enter their login credentials in order to download the admit card. The directions on the admit card must be followed to the letter. Students must verify that all information on the admit card is right.

Candidates are advised to contact the helpline as soon as possible if there is any ambiguity on their admit card. The authorities will take the appropriate steps to resolve the problem.

Answer Key

Students will also have the opportunity to contest the provisional response key. The key will be available for two or three days on the website.

Students must pay a fee of Rs.1000 per question to challenge the response key. The final response key will be released after the authority has accepted the challenge.

The NTA’s decision on the challenges will be considered final, and the outcome will be calculated using the final response key.


By entering their login details, students would be able to verify their results. The results will only be available on the website in an online mode. The results will not be communicated to each candidate individually.

Students will be able to find out their grades on the NTA website, which will be available one week after the results are announced. The NTA authority will not provide a mark sheet for the candidate.

Procedure for Choosing

Only the top 6% of all students who pass the exam (both Paper 1 and Paper 2) will be considered eligible. Candidates will be admitted to various Indian institutes and universities for the position of JRF or Assistant professor based on the cut-off scores achieved in each group. The top 15% of qualified applicants from each group will be chosen and deemed eligible for the position of Assistant Professor.
